Assembly Republicans still targeting autistic children

Boots and Sabers is touting a list of budget items Assembly Republicans are still objecting to going into today’s special session. On the list is a mandate requiring insurance companies to cover treatment for children with autism. We covered this issue in the past, but now that Republicans in the House of Representatives, including Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, are vowing to block an expansion of the SCHIP program, it seems inescapable that poor, very sick children are simply fair game for the more extremist elements of the GOP.

I wonder if that will be a rallying cry at the Americans for Prosperity event in Madison on Wednesday. “Hey, hey, ho, ho, your sick kid has got to go!”

You can read about some of the struggles parents with autistic children face here.

Ah yes. Raw emotional appeal.

Is that all you have?

It is so easy to leave meaningless, devoid of thought, crude messages when one remains anonymous. Compassionate conservatism in action.

anonymous, the whole point here (a point you obviously missed) is that an issue like autism - which has such a profound impact on those folks whose lives have been touched by it - shouldn't be an issue for partisan politics in Madison. These are real kids and real families we're talking about; families just like mine. Perhaps if you were the parent of a child with special needs you'd understand.
